5 Ways to Keep Your RV Cool in Texas

RVing in this sticky weather can be unpleasant at times. With a few simple changes, you can completely turn your camping experience around. Here are a few easy and affordable tricks to keep your camper cool this summer.

Cover/Insulate Your Windows

One of the biggest reasons motorhomes can feel like an oven in the afternoon is the sun coming through the windows. Glass doesn’t do much to keep the heat out, so if you don’t already have shades or blinds on your RV windows, insulate them for better indoor temperatures. This goes for your skylight or any rooftop windows as well. You can get reflective insulation called Reflectix and cut it to the shape of your RV windows, using tape or velcro to attach them. This will reflect the sun off your RV while keeping the cool air inside.

Use an Awning Sun Shade Screen

Once the sun gets low enough, your awning will fail to provide shade to your RV. To prevent this from happening, you can get an awning shade that will not only provide extra shade, but will give your outdoor area a little more privacy from your neighbors.

Using LEDs

LED lights do not produce heat like regular bulbs do. Replacing your RV light fixtures with LED bulbs will also help minimize the warm temperatures. Not only do LEDs produce less light, but they are also energy efficient and will last longer.

Start In the Morning

Cooling down an RV in the middle of the afternoon will be much harder than cooling it down in the early morning. Start your AC units on high before the sun starts hitting your RV and windows. Even if you have to huddle up in the morning, it will be worth the cool temperatures in the afternoon when the sun is beating down.

Cook Outside
